In this article, we explore ABS + PVC sheets, covering three main points: our production process, typical applications, and the different styles available.
A customer recently asked how our PVC + ABS sheets could address their needs. They manufacture medical equipment and had previously relied on sheet metal, but switched to our ABS sheets to cut costs. During our project discussions, we noticed a challenge: the standard glossy ABS finish often appeared cheap, which the customer found unappealing. They also wanted more surface texture options, while ensuring the finish remained durable and resistant to peeling(To avoid disclosing customer privacy, only a small portion will be used for display.)
Afterward, we agreed to try different surface options using ABS + PVC sheets, and the results were very promising. The customer now had a wider range of choices, and ultimately, they selected a textured finish for their thermoformed parts.
Today, we will provide a detailed explanation of how PVC is laminated onto ABS sheets and their real-world applications. The ABS + PVC sheets are created through a hot extrusion process: while extruding the ABS sheet, a PVC layer is thermally bonded onto its surface, as shown in the figure below. The PVC layer is typically around 0.25 mm thick, and the ABS base should not exceed 10 mm, as thicker sheets are harder to extrude properly. See the figure below:
The PVC films we use include most of the materials available on the market, such as wood grain, marble, metal, fabric, and imitation carbon fiber. These films cover a wide range of applications and can be used for thermoforming or cutting to create various shapes. The are various types.
Thanks to this wide variety of PVC films, customers can customize the surface appearance of their ABS + PVC sheets to match their design needs. Whether it’s for aesthetic appeal, brand differentiation, or functional purposes, these sheets can be adapted for almost any project. From decorative panels to functional components in medical devices, furniture, or signage, the combination of ABS strength and PVC versatility ensures both durability and design flexibility.
